Aleister Black Is Injured, What Is His Takeover Status?

Down but not out. Last week on NXT TV, Aleister Black lost the NXT Championship to Tommaso Ciampa. While the result is a huge deal, it was made even better by the fact that it came in a great match. Black and Ciampa had outstanding chemistry together and there’s a good reason to believe that the two of them will go at it again on a big stage. However, there might be something that holds it back.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Black has undergone surgery due to being crotched by Ciampa during a match in Las Vegas. There is no word on how long he’ll be out, but at the moment he is still scheduled to compete at Takeover: Brooklyn IV. At the time though, Black’s match hasn’t officially been announced, but recent episodes of NXT would suggest that he will be in the NXT Title match.

Opinion: As usual, luck seems to favor NXT. Assuming that the NXT Title match in Brooklyn is going to be a triple threat match between Black, Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, there is still an easily done singles match if Black is too injured to wrestle. It might not be the best choice at the moment, but they could simply do an injury angle the night of the show or just have Black get taken out early in the match so the other two can take care of things. It’s making the best of a bad situation, which NXT can pull off.
