AJ Styles Answers Whether He’s Too Good for Shane McMahon

At least one person is confident. One of the biggest matches at “Wrestlemania XXXIII” is AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon, which hasn’t exactly fired up interest. The general criticisms have been that McMahon is beneath Styles and that Styles deserves better. One person we haven’t heard from though is Styles, at least until now.

Styles recently appeared on the “Gorilla Position” podcast to discuss the “Wrestlemania XXXIII” match and seemed to think that the two of them were ready to overcome the problems the perceived problems the match might have. Transcription courtesy of Wrestlinginc.com:

“Well, first of all, at least you’re getting AJ Styles at WrestleMania, that’s a good thing. And Shane McMahon has been in the ring with some pretty high profile performers like, Kurt Angle, and that’s a match that is stuck in my head forever, that performance, and the fact that he goes all out when he gets in the ring- or out of the ring, on top of a cage. Ya know

“The guy is crazy. So, Shane’s exciting to watch and not everybody’s been in the ring with Shane McMahon, so, that’s an opportunity that not many people had, that I may have the opportunity to get in the ring with him and I’m great with that, ya know? I want to be a part of it and for those who think that ‘Oh, this [match] isn’t going to be that good’ I love challenges, so does Shane McMahon, so bring it on.”

Opinion: Maybe Styles is right. Maybe they can pull off something good, which would of course be a very nice surprise. That being said, I had similar optimism last year and was really not all that impressed by the McMahon vs. Undertaker match. If Styles is ok with the match, things are a bit better but I’d still love to see him have a more marquee match after his amazing 2016.
