That would be the worst case scenario. We are in an unprecedented time in wrestling as the spread of the Coronavirus has change almost everything. Wrestling shows are now taking place in front of no fans and that seems to be the case for the foreseeable future. It creates such a different dynamic for the wrestling world, but things might be even worse for one major company.
Along with WWE, AEW has managed to keep going despite everything changing around them. Thanks to an intense marathon taping earlier this month, the company has several weeks of television in the can and ready to go. However, they also have a pay per view scheduled for next month. Since holding a traditional pay per view with a live audience is not much of an option at the moment, AEW needs to come up with something else, but they might not be able to do so.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there is no guarantee that AEW Double Or Nothing will take place at all if a safe way to present it cannot be found. The show was originally scheduled to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 23 but the venue is not holding any events for the time being. There has not been a new venue announced and if a venue where the company can have enough wrestlers to run the show present, there may not be an event.
There is a lot building towards the event. Check out some of the big stories that might be coming to the show:
Opinion: This is one of those things that is part of the current reality in professional wrestling. There are only so many ways around the situation and I’m not sure if AEW is going to be able to pull it off. It may be possible to find a way to pull the show off, but it isn’t as simple as booking a building and running the event as usual. This could make for an interesting situation, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a good one.
