It’s Rusev Day once again. The man that was initially booked to face The Undertaker at WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble event on April 27 is now back on the road to the reaper. As fans process the events surrounding this match, it’s easy to get lost in the drama of it all.

First Rusev is in. He talks smack against Taker, hyping his match the good old-fashioned way. But TMZ runs with the headline and suddenly the whole match is shot. Chris Jericho replaces The Bulgarian Brute and suddenly everyone is speculating on Rusev’s possible departure. But now the story has changed yet again.

Now fans can get back to the matter at hand. Rusev is once again on track and more importantly, he’s the next man to face the legendary Phenom. The Undertaker’s run of matches over the past few years has been less than stellar and fans know it’s just a matter of time until he hangs up the boots. But now that WrestleMania 34 is in the books, everything has changed.

Instead of wishing Undertaker well in his future endeavors, fans are tuning in to see what’s next. With one match, The Deadman made a believer out of the harshest critic. He looked better than ever before, both physically and in the ring as well. Undertaker turned back the clock and delivered the kind of match that fans wanted. They cheered him. They missed him.

One match has made all the difference here. Now Undertaker is once again the ring general that must give his blessing on a guy’s career before the company moves forward with him. Taker did it for Edge. He did it for Randy Orton and he did it for CM Punk. All three guys benefited from stepping into the ring with The Phenom and now that same notion is being applied to Rusev.

If fans are right, then Rusev is on his way up. That’s good news for anyone who has supported him from the moment the words “Rusev Day” were first uttered. His WWE career has taken off and he’s become one of the most popular stars in the company.

He consistently gets one of the biggest pops even though he’s a heel and his babyface opponent often doesn’t come close. Rusev says all the right things as a heel. Aiden English does as well. But the two have chemistry together and fans just can’t find a way to hate either one of them.

So once Rusev works Undertaker on April 27, everything will change for him. He will go from red-hot to nuclear and nothing will stop him from taking over in WWE. He will be booked like a legitimate main event star and AJ Styles’ WWE title run will soon be in jeopardy. Right?

But there is one glaring problem. Yes, Undertaker gives the rub when a guy has earned it or when a guy is still working to prove himself. One match with The Deadman is indeed enough to propel a Superstar upward. At the very least, that one match is enough to cause fans to think much differently about a guy than they did before the opening bell rang.

Yes, Undertaker’s opinion surely continues to be important to WWE as well. After all he usually only wrestles once a year at this point so when he signs off an opponent, the company certainly listens. So if Undertaker says Rusev is worth his time, that must carry some weight.
