Daniel Bryan is one of the most beloved WWE Superstars of his generation. The leader of the Yes Movement continues to get one of the biggest reactions on SmackDown Live, as fans just cannot get enough of the former world champion.
But those same fans want Bryan back in the ring. They want the coordinated chaos and frenzied form that only he can deliver. More importantly, they want to cheer him on again. Fans want to see him fight the good fight for them and overcome the odds, just as he did before against The Authority.
However the reality is that WWE has said no. Bryan’s history of concussion was just too much to ignore and the issue has evidently not been revisited. Daniel Bryan is still an inactive Superstar, content to play his General Manager role next to Commissioner Shane McMahon. It’s a spot that he’s made the best of and the audience has grown accustomed to seeing him in it. But what if he could lace up the boots again?
According to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson via Ringside News, Bryan’s current WWE contract will expire sometime around September 23 2018. Though it’s not a pressing issue in terms of timing, the situation is intriguing due to Bryan’s desire to once again compete in the ring.
Is it possible that Bryan will leave the company during the fall? Though both sides appear to be on good terms, it’s not known if Bryan has been entirely unhappy since his ring career came to a sudden stop back in 2016. Again, he does seem to have accepted his GM role and done quite well with it.
But that’s how it seems. What is the truth? Daniel Bryan is a pro wrestler. It’s who he is. From the moment he first entered the business up to the moment he was forced to retire, Bryan’s entire life was devoted to his craft. He was determined to be the absolute best he could be. He knew he wasn’t the biggest and he knew he wasn’t exactly what WWE typically wanted in its main event stars.
Jay and Mark Briscoe once claimed that WWE passed on them because the duo was not “cosmetically pleasing.” If that didn’t describe Daniel Bryan, nothing did. He had the will to succeed and the ability to make it happen. But he just wasn’t the kind of Superstar that Vince McMahon’s company usually offered.
But thanks to CM Punk‘s ascension, everything changed in WWE. The company now focuses on the talent of the Superstars, not just their physical attributes. Bryan benefited from that change and rose to heights even he likely did not believe possible. His ride to the top was indeed one for the ages.
Fans rallied behind him as he fought the odds. He often stood by himself against The Authority but he was never truly alone. The WWE faithful wanted Bryan. They wanted him to win in the end and that’s exactly what he did. His victory at WrestleMania 30 remains one of the most important nights in the company’s history and that cannot be denied.
