First, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio clarified that Shane McMahon was backstage and jumped in to help his father Vince McMahon when McMahon and Lesnar got into it, as we reported earlier.
The whole fight may have been a work, but there were people there who believed that this was absolutely legit.
The incident originally started between McMahon and Lesnar, as Lesnar was upset for some reason as he got backstage. McMahon wasn’t happy about Lesnar’s actions in his match against Reigns. Lesnar reportedly threw the Universal Championship at either McMahon or the wall.
It appears that Paul Heyman isn’t the only one with a new short-term deal, as it appears Lesnar has also agreed to a small deal. This deal also reportedly allows him to work at least one UFC fight. PWInsider additionally made the point that Lesnar may just be working an extension on the previous deal.
Additionally, it appears the finish of Reigns vs. Lesnar was a big secret, kept from even top officials and the writing staff, who had no idea Reigns was losing. Meltzer claims the idea to have Lesnar retain was sometime in the past week. The referee didn’t find out about the finish until they were in the ring and the match was underway.
