This past Wednesday, TNA made its debut on Destination America with the first edition of the new “Impact Wrestling.” The show was re-branded with new graphics, new talent, announcers and more. But unfortunately for TNA, the results may not have been as desirable as once thought.
Viewership numbers are in for the premiere episode, which was aired on slight tape-delay. The show averaged 263,000 viewers, which is a large decrease from its previous viewership. While with Spike, TNA averaged between 800,000 and 1-million viewers per episode.
The company taped several more episodes in New York City following the debut, and will finish up taping with its “Lockdown” special Friday night at the Manhattan Center. The show will move from Wednesday to Fridays going forward, where it will air in primetime. TNA had some technical difficulties on Wednesday, but resolved them quick enough.
Destination America is limited in viewership in comparison to Spike, and has an outreach of only about half of what TNA was used to. Spike decided it no longer wanted to be in the wrestling industry, and thus, pulled the plug on “Impact” at the end of 2014.
