WWE and 2K Sports held a ’30 Years Of WrestleMania’ symposium, which was attended by several WWE legends including Rey Mysterio, ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan, Paul Heyman, Mick Foley, Stone Cold Steve Austin and others.
Hosted by former WWE announcer Jim Ross, the event was designed to promote the new retrospective WrestleMania mode in the new video game. Ross indicated potential issues at the beginning of the event by commenting that ‘most’ of the panel were sober, ‘but not all’.
Both Flair and Ross used bad language at several points, and Flair began telling stories regarding his old matches, mentioned TNA Wrestling and generally showed no interest in the game itself. The format of the event wasn’t followed which left 2K executives furious as the game and focus of the event was barely mentioned.
At one point Paul Heyman literally torn-up the runsheet as the event descended into chaos.
Both 2K and WWE are said to be very angry with how the event turned out, with Stephanie McMahon said to have personally apologised to 2K executives.
After the event, all of the participants took part in separate individual interviews, although Ric Flair was notably absent, instead being replaced by WWE Raw announcer Jerry Lawler.
