The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an interesting look at the WWE creative process for the NXT developmental system and its signature program “NXT.” And it is a significant difference from WWE television for sure.
According to the site, Triple H is essentially in charge of the day-to-day operations of NXT. Alongside this, he is the primary go-to for all decisions made regarding the television show itself.
However, there is one main writer for the show, who helps direct and dictate the direction of all the feuds shown on television. In addition, another writer may help to smoothen things out and to ensure the best quality programming is put out, but no more than that. Altogether, about three people are involved with putting on the program from a composition standpoint.
This is a major difference from WWE television, which features large writing teams of up to 30 writers. With all the different chefs in the kitchen, multiple things get covered, and Vince McMahon makes the ultimate decisions.
It is worth noting NXT produces one hour of television per week, while the main roster produces up to seven, if not more if there is a pay-per-view.
Editor’s Note
So is the issue with WWE television the creative teams themselves, or the amount of hours they have to write for instead? Hmmm….
