Rumors have been circulating over the past several days over WWE potentially being interested in former German national team soccer goalkeeper Tim Wiese. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provides clarification to the word going around.
The 32-year-old Wiese himself has said the company has offered him a developmental contract. Wiese was let go from his league team, TSG Hoffenheim, in January. After this, Meltzer says Wiese dedicated himself to bodybuilding and building an impressive physique, which is said to have impressed WWE officials.
Additionally, the report squashes Wiese’s claims of receiving a contract offer, saying WWE merely offered to try him out and did not commit to an offer. He says WWE considers Wiese’s situation to be essentially a dead issue at this point, and the company was surprised to see news come out this week.
Wiese turns 33 in December, and carries a degree of name recognition in Germany. However, at this time, it does not appear a WWE career is in his future.
Editor’s Note
Not a bad thing. It would be good publicity, but WWE can better spend that money investing elsewhere into someone with true passion for the industry.
