No more than one week ago, it was reported WWE officials had ordered a Lucha Libre mask for former WWE Tag Team Champion Tyson Kidd in preparation for a gimmick change. But according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a possibility the company may have changed its mind with Kidd.
Dave Meltzer notes in his weekly newsletter Kidd, who competed in the main event of “NXT Takeover” in a losing effort to NXT Champion Adrian Neville, may be headed for another direction with his character. He believes the indication was given there would be an angle involving him and real-life wife Natalya, where their in-ring losses have led to marriage problems.
He pointed to the spot in the post-show for “Takeover,” where Kidd refused to answer any questions about his main event loss. After Natalya, who had lost earlier in the night in an acclaimed match with new NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte, tried to empathize with him, he shrugged her off. This angle was furthered in the proceeding television tapings.
Moreover, he notes there would be difficulties in making Kidd masked. Because he is an established name, people would begin to recognize him and his style underneath the mask. This would in turn lead for little reasoning to put him underneath it.
Editor’s Note
I never really understood him going under the mask in the first place. They may still do it, but I hope they don’t, as he has talent and can help others while doing his own performance.
