TNA taped the second part of its Genesis event following the show that aired live on Thursday night, featuring the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match between the champion Magnus and the challenger Sting. As broadcast on Thursday, Sting agreed that should he lose the match, he would allow for Magnus to rip up his TNA contract.

In the tapings to air on Jan. 23, Magnus successfully defeats Sting with the help of interference from many of the company’s heels, much like the ending of the AJ Styles/Magnus match. Magnus then tears up Sting’s contract as the show comes to a close.

The angle was run on the same day that news broke that WWE had recently reached out to Sting to appear at WrestleMania. Sting has adamantly refused over the years to join the company, despite coming close in 2011. The timing is most certainly interesting, however.

It is possible that this could be all part of storyline, but it should be noted that Sting has worked on a year-to-year basis for TNA. Given the recent talent releases in the company, it very well may be possible that the TNA Hall of Famer was next in line.
