Former NXT Champion Sami Zayn made a surprise appearance on “Monday Night Raw,” accepting John Cena’s open challenge for the United States Championship. The match went off without a hitch, with the exception of a moment where Zayn called over a doctor to examine his shoulder.
It was revealed shortly after “RAW” Zayn would undergo an MRI to examine the shoulder. According to PWInsider, the news may not be so good.
Per the outlet, there is belief the injury Zayn sustained may be serious, with one of its sources saying it is believed to be a torn rotator cuff. It is said the injury took place prior to the match, aggravated when he raised his arms while making his entrance. He then wrestled the rest of the match.
He had shoulder issues in March and April, which prevented him from competing and being part of WrestleMania weekend with NXT. It is unknown at this time if there is any correlation between the two injuries.
Zayn is scheduled to face Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship at the upcoming “TakeOver” event, though it is possible this injury may change immediate plans for that match.
Editor’s Note
Devastating news if true. Could take many months to heal, especially if surgery is involved. Best wishes to him.
