Prior to the June 8 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” WWE.com made an announcement regarding its midcard title picture. Per the company, Ryback will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Big Show at “Money in the Bank” this Sunday night.
WWE.com noted Big Show made his return on last week’s edition of “RAW,” claiming the former World Heavyweight Champion had been on sabbatical.
“The showdown for the coveted championship between the two Superstars promises to be an intense encounter. Prior to his sabbatical, Big Show won The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 31, once again establishing himself as one of the most dominant Superstars on the roster. However, during the giant’s absence, The Human Wrecking Ball has taken on all challengers, culminating with his victory inside the steel confines of the Elimination Chamber to claim his first singles championship in WWE.”
As noted above, Ryback captured the Intercontinental Championship unexpectedly at “Elimination Chamber” last Sunday, outlasting five others en route to the title. He last beat Sheamus, who was rumored to be winning the title but found himself in the Money in the Bank ladder match instead this upcoming Sunday.
This will be Ryback’s first official title defense, as he had not held a championship in WWE prior to winning the belt last week. It is unknown if this will be the start of a lengthy program between the two.
Big Show was originally last seen on television at “Extreme Rules,” where he lost to Roman Reigns in a “Last Man Standing” match. He was kept off television to sell the impact Reigns had, and had been scheduled to return earlier. However, several changes in creative reportedly pushed off his return for a bit.
Editor’s Note
Well…I feel like this probably won’t be all that exciting of a matchup. Obviously, the selling point is Ryback hitting his finisher on the big man. Hope it works.
