WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross recently took to the Q&A section of his website, and answered some questions from some wrestling die-hards. Below are some of the highlights.
On his recollection of the Montreal Screwjob and Vince McMahon’s role in it:
“The theory is generally that WWE could not afford Bret’s guaranteed salary and that by maneuvering the storyline as they did it would necessitate WCW to pay Bret much more than they would necessarily have to. There are still conflicting stories regarding this matter after all these years but I’d suggest that you read Bret’s book for his side of the matter.”
Another fan asked why he keeps comparing Brock Lesnar as a champion not on television to Andre the Giant:
“Obviously I don’t think it was outdated or I wouldn’t have used it. Same philosophy applies for the years that the NWA had a traveling champion and he was seen sporadically by fans in many territories. Today’s TV model can feature a talent quite easily even if the talent isn’t there physically. Not being on TV every week makes a wrestler more special. Over exposure is not a positive.”
He also commented on whether he thinks wrestling will see another boom period:
“The wrestling business is driven by two things…talent and television. If new stars can emerge and explode then another boom period is possible. The bigger the attractions the more likely the success.”

Editor’s Note
What he says about Andre and Brock is a very interesting comparison. I, for one, agree with him.
