Wrestling has been given another chance to be included in the Olympic Games after being included on the shortlist for the 2020 games.

The IOC had originally dropped the sport earlier this year, however FILA was given a chance to reapply for the position. The campaign to ‘save’ wrestling recieved backing from Olympic Gold-medallist and Impact Wrestling star Kurt Angle, as well as countless other wrestling personalities and organisations, although WWE never officially backed the re-instatement of the sport.

After a thirty minute presentation to from FILA to the IOC, it has been decided that wrestling will join squash and baseball on the shortlist, with a final decision to be made in September.

Baseball/softball was dropped after 2008 in Beijing, while squash has never featured at the Olympics.

Whichever sport succeeds in the September vote will be added to the 25 core sports, along with golf and rugby sevens.
