The Royal Rumble went down just a week ago, and that means we’re fully on the road to WrestleMania. Tonight’s Raw has some big implications for the upcoming build, so let’s break down exactly what to expect.
The biggest, of course, is Goldberg’s scheduled appearance. He’s set to address Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania challenge tonight, and despite every expectation that the two will go at it one more time on the big stage, he might not say “yes” tonight.
Why? First he’s likely to be on a collision course with Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship at Fastlane. Goldberg conquers Owens, wins the title, and then Lesnar gets in line for a title shot?
But then, we’re not quite sure how the specifics will work out, and while Lesnar vs. Goldberg III is basically locked in, the path WWE takes to make that match in-storyline is still up in the air. Goldberg’s appearance tonight will set the tone for how this story goes down.
Then there’s Seth Rollins, whose WrestleMania match with Triple H was one of the longest building in WWE–until a freak injury during Samoa Joe’s debut put all those plans very much into question.
WWE will be announcing the extent of Rollins injuries tonight, and might make clear what to expect at WrestleMania. Backstage reports have put recovery time at 6-8 weeks, which makes for a very big question mark in this huge match.
There are also two major interim feuds that we expect to see pay off at Fastlane. The first of those features perennial underdog Sami Zayn, who scored a clean victory over US Champion Chris Jericho last week. That spells a title match in our view, and you can expect this to be addressed tonight.
Then there’s Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. Roman’s set for a match against the Undertaker, and Braun’s being built as an unstoppable monster. They’ll have a match, but it’s tough to imagine a clean victory for either competitor–unless Strowman’s push exists to build Roman up for the Undertaker match. (Gosh, that’s a disturbing thought.)
Raw takes place at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon tonight, broadcast live on the USA Network at 8PM Eastern/7PM Central. We’ll have live coverage as always, so stick with us here, on Twitter, and on Facebook for all the details as they happen!
