Daniel Bryan’s outburst on Talking Smack seemed a bit more real than the in-storyline show should allow, and it seems there’s reason to believe that’s exactly the case.
If you missed it, the post-SmackDown talk show saw the Miz digging into Bryan for the fact that he wants to wrestle, but can’t. Bryan essentially said it’s not that he can’t, it’s that WWE won’t let him.
According to today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan’s contract had essentially been frozen while he was off of TV. Now that he’s back on-screen, the time specified in the contract has resumed, which means that his “year and a half” comment is very much the truth.
After that time is up, it seems that Bryan is doing “what very few guys would do.” That being walking away from the guaranteed money of WWE for the opportunity wrestle elsewhere. Bryan is determined to wrestle, and since it seems WWE will not clear him he’ll be looking to ply the trade elsewhere–most likely New Japan Pro Wrestling.
But should Bryan be wrestling? WWE’s doctors refuse to clear him, and that’s not without reason–but other medical opinions would allow him to be cleared. With a family on the way, it seems that personal safety would be a higher priority than ever for Bryan, but his case is far from open and shut.
