Rumors had been spreading for weeks and weeks that Mickie James would be returning to SmackDown Live. Tonight, it finally happened.

Mickie’s return to WWE began with a surprisingly excellent match against Asuka at NXT Takeover: Toronto, and her main roster contract with WWE was a rumor that quickly followed. With the La Luchadora story coming about just as rumors of James’ debut were heating up, many unsurprisingly thought she would turn out to be the one under the mask.

The main event of SmackDown Live was set as a cage match for the Women’s Championship between Alexa Bliss and challenger Becky Lynch. Lynch was close to emerging victorious by escape, but La Luchadora blocked her path. The former champ got Bliss into a submission, but once again the Luchadora was there to break it up, ultimately leading to victory for Alexa Bliss.

Becky regained her senses and ripped La Luchadora’s mask off, revealing–surprise surprise–none other than Mickie James. Another two-woman beatdown to Lynch saw James and Bliss stand tall to end the show.

Mickie James was a five-time Women’s Champion and 1-time Divas Champion during her previous run with WWE, from 2005 to 2010. In the time since, she’s wrestled for TNA and various independent promotions, winning many different titles during her various stays.
