It’s right there in our title: Wrestling Rumors. Pro wrestling is one of the leakiest entertainment venues on television, and we’re apt to hear a fair share of what’s going to happen before it does. But that doesn’t mean every word whispered is real, and with Vince McMahon in charge nothing is final until it’s on TV. Take it with a grain of salt, but enjoy the speculation.
Roman Reigns finally got pulled out of the main event scene to become Raw’s United States champion–only to immediately be thrust back into the main event via a feud with Universal Champ Kevin Owens. If you’re worried about Reigns holding two titles at once, save the riots. We’ve got reason to believe that Reigns is sticking to the upper-midcard through WrestleMania.
Word is that Braun Strowman is set as Roman’s WrestleMania opponent, according to widely-circulated quotes attributed to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer. We’ve been expecting a feud between Strowman and Big Show, as tests of strength between the two have been staples of recent Raw house shows. It seems that the plan is for Strowman to outpower the Big Show as WWE’s premiere big man in order to groom him as an opponent for Reigns on the big stage.
WWE will certainly see that match as a big deal, but it’s tough to imagine them being so out of touch as to promote it as main event, or even semi-main. This is why we expect Roman to remain US champ only. Given the clear love for Strowman through his monster push these past few months, we wouldn’t even be surprised if he claimed the title from Roman at Mania.
