Whether you’re a fan of Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling, you probably know Kyle O’Reilly.
O’Reilly attempted to defend the Ring of Honor championship at Wrestle Kingdom 11, but was ultimately defeated by Adam Cole (bay-bay!). Now it seems that O’Reilly is bound for WWE, though that’s as yet unofficial.
But according to this week’s Wrestling Observer (subscription required), ROH officials believe that O’Reilly is soon to make for WWE. It should be noted that he’s been removed from ROH’s official roster page online.
And he’s not alone. They also expect Ray Rowe to make the switch soon. There’s an extra complication with Rowe, however, as he and Hanson are attempting to keep their tag team, War Machine, together. Whether that team ends up with ROH, NJPW, or WWE is still up in the air.
Adam Cole, current ROH Champion, is also expected to hit WWE when his contract expires in May. He’s legally barred from negotiations until May 1st, but it would not be the first time those stipulations were ignored.
WWE has certainly made a habit of picking up free agents, with many big stars from ROH, TNA, and NJPW making the leap in the past year. Those are the kind of moves, however, that have some–including the current hottest name outside of WWE, Kenny Omega–fearing a WWE-branded monopoly on sports entertainment.
