In the old era of wrestling, pro grapplers would keep in character everywhere they went. That’s no longer the case, with WWE wrestlers typically leaving their characters in the ring.
Last week, we mentioned the Twitter beef that was brewing with Emma and Summer Rae, who voiced their displeasure over the division’s laser-focus on the extended feud between Sasha Banks and Charlotte. Nia Jax added herself to that conversation in the meantime.
But guess what? We got worked.
According to Dave Meltzer on yesterday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, the displeasure expressed by Emma, Summer, and Nia is “a total storyline.” Which makes sense, because where else could you complain about your incredibly public job on Twitter?
In any case, it’s nice to be fooled by a good-ol’ piece of wrestling carny every once in a while. Here’s hoping the story actually goes somewhere.
Emma returns to the ring on this week’s Raw, and given the timing she might end up with a pay-per-view match at Roadblock next Sunday. Let’s hope her in-ring talent (which is considerable) hasn’t atrophied as result of focusing on her “look good in a bikini” talents (which are also, admittedly, considerable).
Summer had a solid run in pre-Network NXT, but has done little on the main roster and is currently sidelined with an injury. Nia Jax, of course, is being built as the future monster of the Raw women’s division.
Will any of them interject themselves into the Sasha vs. Charlotte war? Roadblock’s Iron Man match should put a definitive end to the rivalry, so surely some new matches will have to come as a result. But then, we might’ve said the same thing at Hell in a Cell.
