The ending of SummerSlam this year was a shocker, with Brock Lesnar burying multiple hard elbow strikes into the head of Randy Orton, busting the Viper wide open and ending the match in TKO.

The pool of blood made a disturbing end to the event, especially when it came to light that the blows sidelined Orton with a concussion. We heard that some backstage were upset with how things went down–none more so than Chris Jericho. But what does the Apex Predator himself have to say?

In an interview with USA Today, the third-generation superstar was naturally a consummate professional. But there still seems to be a tinge of frustration.

“I think with Lesnar, it’s always going to be him coming in every few months as a monster who destroys guys who work 200 days a year,” said Orton, adding that “There is a tendency for that to get old. I could have looked a little better that night and that would have helped me a lot regardless of the finish and not hurt Brock’s character at all. But the fact that you’re asking me about it three-four months later, means we created a buzz. But the fact that I had a concussion and was out for three weeks and wasn’t able to do anything pissed me off.”

But in regards to the injury, Orton also said “We say this a lot in the back when someone gets hit harder than intended, we knew what we were signing up for. It’s a rough sport. It’s a rough business and very physical. A few more people need to respect how things can go sour out there.”

The full interview, in which Randy talks about pursuing acting outside WWE, working with another third-generation wrestler in Bray Wyatt, and his nephew’s battle with leukemia, is well worth checking out.
