Much as AJ Styles was a year ago, Kenny Omega is currently the hottest free agent in pro wrestling. John Cena, poster boy for WWE, really wants to believe he’s coming to the biggest company in the business.
It wasn’t long ago that Omega said he’d rather reach the top while never setting foot in WWE. He also teased leaving Japan, though you could write that off as being an in-character response to his loss in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 11.
In a recent interview, however, he was much more conciliatory toward the idea of wrestling in WWE, saying “John Cena is one of the great WWE talents that I respect most. If I were to end up there, working with someone of his caliber would certainly be a goal and jive with my mission of changing wrestling.”
Cena has been keeping up his part of the tease. The man just won’t stop posting Kenny Omega referencing images to Instagram.
First, a picture of Omega himself.

Then, a slightly more sly South Park reference.

How about the letter O?

Then there was a picture of Mega Man.

Cena’s got a weird, wild Instagram, but it’s not like him to deliberately troll fans. Or is it? I don’t even know anymore.
One thing I do know is that Cena posted this image shortly before AJ Styles’ Royal Rumble debut last year.

There are conflicting reports on Omega’s contract status with New Japan, with some sources reporting he’s signed a new two-year deal and others saying that status is still up in the air. His existing contract, however, will run past the date of the Royal Rumble, meaning a surprise appearance there is especially unlikely.
What do you think? Is Omega on the way to WWE, or is Cena just building hype any way he can? Let us know in the comments below, or on Facebook!
