With the recent success of NXT coupled with the drop in television ratings as of late, the WWE Universe has been left to wonder “who is really in control backstage?”
PWInsider.com is reporting that McMahon is still very much “the man” in charge, and that all creative decision must go through him. It is also being reported that any time someone on the creative team brings up a new idea, the response is always “let’s see if Vince likes it.”
It is also being reported that McMahon was also responsible for the creative booking decisions behind Saturday’s WWE Network Live Event Special from Madison Square Garden.
The event, which aired exclusively on the WWE Network, saw “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar dismantle The Big Show, John Cena retain his United States Championship against WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins in a Cage match, and Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens defeated “Y2J” Chris Jericho.
McMahon will apparently continue to micro-manage the creative team and all aspects of the company as long as the ratings continue to slip.
Editor’s Note:
I don’t really care who is ultimately in control backstage, as long as we continue to get quality matches on a nightly basis. Clearly, Triple H has the ability to book a fantastic card, as proven by the overwhelming success of NXT. I just want feuds that make sense and matches that are five star…..Is that too much to ask?
