According to multiple reports, WWE held “Ron Simmons appreciation night” over the weekend. The special event took place Saturday night during a WWE house show in Tallahasse, Fl. JBL, Simmons tag team partner for years and close personal friend, hosted the evening’s appreciation segment. He reportedly  gave a hilarious speech about his years as Simmons’ partner before Simmons made his way to the ring.

Tallahasse, Florida is a special place for Simmons, as it is where he was an All-American defensive nose guard for Florida State University. Simmons’ number 50 jersey was even retired at FSU in 1988, the third jersey at the university to receive that honor. Once Simmons entered the ring, a WWE produced highlight video ran that included some of his most memorable collegiate football moments. The crowd reportedly went nuts. Simmons was then presented with a plaque for “Ron Simmons’ Day”. The WWE Hall of Famer had only one response for the love and appreciation that he felt from the Florida fans and the WWE that evening… “DAMN!”
