New reports have provided an update on when WWE decided to turn Seth Rollins heel. The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that the decision was made just one day before the company pulled the trigger and had Rollins attack his Shield brethren, causing the apparent demise of the original line-up for popular stable.
Rollins “adapted” and joined forces with Evolution during the June 2 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” just a mere 22 hours following The Shield’s clean sweep of Evolution in an Elimination Tag Team Match at “Payback.” Although a split for The Shield had been planned for some time prior to WrestleMania XXX, WWE officials decided to hold off on separating the young superstars due to their popularity within the WWE Universe.
While most people believed Dean Ambrose would have been the guy in the group to turn heel due to his frantic in-ring style and charisma, turning Rollins heel gives him an edge and keeps him in the main event as a major player moving forward, at least for the time being. The decision to make Rollins the replacement for Batista in Evolution while he’s away promoting his film “Guardians of the Galaxy” was said to be a hasty one, being made just before “Payback” went live, but it is a decision that will work out for everyone involved.
The plan going forward is to have Rollins and Randy Orton face Ambrose and Roman Reigns very soon, possibly at “Money In The Bank.”
Editor’s Note:
I’d hate to see those four guys out of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match at “Money In The Bank,” but what a match that will be, eh?
