United States Championship Match Announced for WWE “Battleground”

John Cena will defend his United States Championship against Kevin Owens at WWE “Battleground.” The July Pay-Per-View will air on select cable networks and the WWE Network on July 19.

Cena and Owens have clashed twice before this upcoming match-up. Their first outing together saw Owens conquer Cena with a Pop-Up Powerbomb for a clean three-count at WWE “Elimination Chamber” in May.

Their return bout at “Money In The Bank” saw Cena defeat Owens. Upon winning the match, Cena shook Owens’ hand and tried to “show respect” to an admiral foe, who just came up short.

Owens then delivered a Powerbomb to Cena on the ring apron, “injuring” the United States Champion. The following night on “Monday Night Raw,” Owens declared to the world that he wants Cena and the US title.

Cena would go on to accept the challenge and confirm a title match between the two heated adversaries at WWE “Battleground” during his return during “RAW” on June 22. This makes the fourth official WWE title match confirmed for the event, with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and the WWE Tag Team Championship all also being defended during the show.
