Former WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus, a member of the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame class, was recently the focus of an article in the Toronto Sun. The article covers highlights of Stratus’ career, who her favorite wrestler is, who may be inducting her in the WWE Hall of Fame, and more.
Stratus states in the interview portion of the article that selecting her favorite wrestler is easy. “Macho Man Randy Savage was the man to me. I mean don’t get me wrong, I definitely was a Hulkamaniac because I think we all were. But Macho Man, I just thought he was great, just so charismatic and I really loved his ring work. I loved how athletic he was. I was actually … just watching a string of his promos the other day, and it’s just, ‘Wow, he’s just untouchable.’ ”
Stratus also comments on how she broke into the wrestling business after being a successful fitness model. When the WWE came calling, she had been training in Canada, wrestling nothing but men. She says she’ll forever be indebted to Ron Hutchison, who trained other WWE superstars such as Edge and Christian, for taking a chance on her. “He accepted me,” Stratus said. “He saw something in me and said, ‘OK, well, let’s give this girl a shot,’ and I’ll always thank him for that. I got in there and just started tussling it up with the boys. It was great.”
Rumors of former WWE Women’s Champion Lita inducting Stratus into the Hall of Fame were also addressed. “I have someone and you’ll just have to wait,” she said with a laugh. “That’s obviously been swirling around. It was a difficult choice. There’s a number of people that have really, really impacted my career. In my speech, you’ll know the choice I made is very clear. But you’ll know soon enough.”
Stratus also talks about her retirement match, using the sharp-shooter, and what she wanted to do with her life if wrestling hadn’t entered the picture. You can read the entire article at TorontoSun.com.
