Former WCW and TNA World Heavyweight Champion and current WWE Legend Sting is reportedly working a match at WWE “SummerSlam” on Aug. 23. Sting has not appeared on WWE television or Pay-Per-View programming since the night following WrestleMania 31, where he addressed the WWE Universe following a “Monday Night Raw” broadcast. His address was a WWE Network exclusive feature.

According to Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” Sting is set to work at “SummerSlam” on Aug. 23 in Brooklyn, New York. Not only is Sting set to wrestle on the card, but Meltzer and Alvarez also have revealed that “The Phenom” The Undertaker is also confirmed for the August Pay-Per-View.

Dave Meltzer claims that as he was trying to confirm that the rumor surrounding ‘Taker making an appearance at “Battleground” was true or not, he discovered that not only is that very likely, but he is booked for “SummerSlam” as well. He says that he knew Sting was booked for “SummerSlam,” and that his inclusion in the card was being kept off the record, but he had no idea that Undertaker was also going to be working on the card.

He states that one, or both, may appear at “Battleground,” with Undertaker being the most likely candidate, but both have been confirmed to him through WWE sources that they will be working “SummerSlam.” WWE is apparently using such names as Undertaker and Sting to bring eyes to the product “SummerSlam” weekend, as they want to see the third quarter WWE Network numbers soar as high as their first quarter numbers.

Both men will apparently be talked about and promoted on “Monday Night Raw” leading up to “SummerSlam,” with “Battleground” possibly being the catalyst for both men’s August match. It is unconfirmed at the time who the legends will be facing at “SummerSlam,” which could be any number of option from Triple H or Seth Rollins for Sting, or Rollins or Brock Lesnar for ‘Taker.

Facing each other at “SummerSlam” is another option, as the match between the two “foundations” of both WWE and WCW has been one that’s been talked about for years. WWE wanted to bring Sting in to do the match many moons ago, but it just never happened. The former WCW Champion has claimed that a match that he wants at WrestleMania before he retires is against The Dead Man, but maybe WWE is going to use this dream match scenario to bring mid-year ratings up to new heights, and make “SummerSlam” almost as “must-see” as WrestleMania.

Sting last faced Triple H on WWE programming at WrestleMania 31, where he lost in what turned out to be a WWE vs. WCW bout. D-Generation X members Shawn Michaels, X-Pac, “Road Dogg” Jesse James, and “Badd Ass” Billy Gunn joined Triple H during the battle, while nWo members “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall came to the assist of Sting to declare war. WCW was again on the losing side of things, in Vince McMahon’s “infinite wisdom.”

Editor’s Note:

Could they be facing each other at “SummerSlam” instead of WrestleMania 32? Or will their paths cross at “SummerSlam” to LEAD to a WrestleMania bout? This is getting exciting!
