Amidst speculation on events that took place on Nov. 3, Sky Sports claims the WWE Network will exist as a television channel in the UK. As previously reported, WWE halted the reveal of their Over-the-Top streaming service in the United Kingdom just minutes before launch on Nov. 3 due to unknown circumstances.
While Vince McMahon issued an apology to the droves of UK WWE fans in a video on WWE.com, rumors continued to flair up claiming that Sky Sports was instrumental in the delay of the WWE Network launch. According to a fan report to ProWrestling.net, Sky Sports will be offering the network as a channel, and this may be what stopped the debut of it in the UK on Nov. 3.
A Sky Sports representative reported said the following to the interested fan in a live customer service chat,
“Yes, we will launch it as a channel with Sky TV. Currently we don’t have any details but it will be going to be soon… And you will will be notified by adv, email or call.”
While the customer service rep for Sky Sports could be misinformed, the UK version of the WWE Network could be offered to fans as the network is currently distributed in Canada. The WWE Network is currently available to select markets in Canada via Rogers Media, although the channel does not offer the same content as the Over-the-Top streaming service does in the United States.
WWE has not yet offered any comment on this report.
