It was announced during the May 13 edition of “NXT” that Sami Zayn will still face Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship on May 20 at “NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.” As previously reported, Zayn suffered a shoulder injury before his main roster singles match debut against United States Champion John Cena during the May 4 edition of “Monday Night Raw.”
Zayn tweaked his shoulder during his entrance before answering the US Title Open Challenge of Cena while amping up the crowd while standing on the ring steps. He continued on and faced Cena regardless of what he felt in his shoulder, clearly aggravated by the injury during the match.
After doctors got in the ring to check on him, he finished the bout and went on to have an MRI done in order to discover the severity of the situation. Zayn explained during the May 13 edition of “NXT” that he believes his shoulder may have come out of socket and popped back in. While he doesn’t know for sure how hurt he actually is, he would still be facing Owens at “NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.”
The “TakeOver” special set to air on May 20 is rumored to possibly be Zayn’s last appearance on NXT programming as a full-time member of that roster, as he is likely going to take time off to heal following the event, then make the move to WWE’s main roster for good. Owens is slated to retain the NXT Championship, and send Zayn “home” to nurse his injury “for good.”
WWE officials were reportedly blown away by the response Zayn received during the May 4 edition of “RAW,” and were also very pleased with the caliber of match he was able to deliver while suffering from an injury. Reports say officials want him moved up to the main roster as soon as possible.
Editor’s Note:
Would be a logical way to send Zayn off “NXT,” to have Owens “send him home.” What would REALLY be awesome is if they throw Zayn into the WWE Intercontinental Championship match at “Elimination Chamber.” I know, wishful thinking, but how AWESOME would that be?
