Sami Zayn Reportedly Expected to Return in October
Former NXT Champion Sami Zayn is reportedly expected to return to in-ring action with WWE in October. As previously reported, Zayn had issues with his left rotator cuff that required surgery, which he had on May 26 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter states that Zayn is expected to return in October, boding all goes well and smoothly in his recovery. As we previously noted, rotator cuff surgery usually requires someone to rehab and recover for three-to-six months. October would be four months removed from Zayn’s procedure.
Zayn apparently had been dealing with shoulder issues for a while before having the surgery. He made his injury worse during his entrance during his “Monday Night Raw” singles match debut.
Zayn answered John Cena’s United States Championship Open Challenge during the May 4 edition of “RAW,” and further aggravated his shoulder injury while pumping up the crowd during his entrance. He would go on to face Cena in the match, causing more damage, which would only get worse during Zayn’s bout with Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship on May 20 at “NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.”
The Montreal native would be written off “NXT” television during the WWE Network NXT special on May 20, when Owens brutally assaulted Zayn for the second time during an “NXT TakeOver” event. This was to set up Zayn’s time away from the ring.
Zayn missed almost two-months of action earlier in the year trying to heal a nagging shoulder injury, and was forced to miss out on a lot of NXT’s inaugural Live Events across the nation, particularly WrestleMania weekend’s shows. On top of missing Live Events, Zayn has only been able to work five “NXT” television bouts in 2015 due to shoulder issues.
PWInsider.com claims that Zayn had been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury since before he signed a WWE contract in 2012. Zayn’s fellow NXT superstar Hideo Itami will be missing six-to-eight months of action due to the surgery he just had on his shoulder.
Zayn, who was expected to be written off “NXT” television by Owens in the manner that he was so that he could join the WWE main roster, will likely return to join Owens on the big stage in the Fall, re-igniting the feud that the duo had running in NXT.
Editor’s Note:
Hopefully Zayn recovers completely before returning so that he’s not out, back, out, and back again. We all know how much Vince McMahon HATES that and books people incredibly bad when they’re like that.
