Rusev has been removed from upcoming WWE Live Events and could miss “Elimination Chamber” on Sunday, May 31. As previously reported, the former United States Champion suffered a lower-leg injury during the May 26 set of “Smackdown” tapings in a match with Ryback, who has been notoriously bashed for injuring others (or being in matches with others as they get injured).
Rusev and Ryback competed in a match that will air during the May 28 edition of “Smackdown,” where Rusev noticeably injures his right leg in some way, and the bout ends in an awkward disqualification. WWE medical officials then assisted Rusev to the back…and kayfabe assisted Ryback to the locker room, as he is dealing with a storyline-focused rib injury.
Word is from backstage that Rusev’s injury may be worse than initially expected. The Bulgarian Brute was then removed from the May 29 and 30 WWE Live Events, and is questionable for “Elimination Chamber” on May 31.
Rusev was originally slated to be one of the six men vying for the vacant Intercontinental Championship inside of the chamber itself. However, if Rusev is out and cannot compete on May 31, rumor has it that Bray Wyatt may be the man to replace him in the Elimination Chamber.
WrestlingRumors.net will have more on Rusev’s status and provide further details about his injury as soon as more information is released. We wish Rusev a full and speedy recovery.
Editor’s Note:
Sucks. Rusev has been in one of the best angles on TV, and literally JUST did his best mic work during the May 25 edition of “RAW.” Hate this for the guy.
