Rick Titan, the man who played the “Fake” Razor Ramon character when Scott Hall left the WWF for the WCW between 1996-97, was recently on the Inside the Ropes podcast. During the interview, Titan talks about Japan, ECW, how Paul Heyman got him to imitate the Razor Ramon character, and how the WWF noticed this and asked him to replace Hall when he left.
Titan also talks about it being a “doomed” gimmick, as it was impossible to get the fans to embrace him as Razor Ramon. He also mentions Shawn Michaels, and that he encouraged and helped him with the character. Titan also talks about getting fired and his last interaction with Vince McMahon.
When asked about how he was let go, Titan had this to say, “I didn’t find out. They just kind of sent us home after a tour in Memphis and I sorta saw the writing on the wall. I actually phoned Vince. I’d saved his home number. So I called him and I said ‘Hey it’s Rick Titan here from Calgary, Alberta, Canada and it looks like my contracts up and I just wanted to see if you wanted to do anything else with the character?’ All he said to me was, ‘Rick, please don’t call me at this number again.’ That was it. I saw my dream was destroyed and he didn’t give a damn.”
