Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair comments on the passing of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper in a new statement given to TMZ.com on July 31. As previously reported, Piper passed away in his sleep due to a cardiac arrest on July 30 in his home. He was 61 years old.
Many WWE Hall of Famers, legends, superstars, and fans have taken to social media to express their sorrow and condolences over the loss of possibly the greatest “heel” character in wrestling history, with “The Nature Boy” trailing just behind. Flair, who had classic matches with Piper throughout their career, whether against one another or in each other’s corner, made a full statement to
TMZ,
much like WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan did.
Flair’s words read as follows,
“We’ve shared the ring, traveled the world, maintained a friendship throughout the ups and downs of the wrestling world, and battled to see who was the better heel. It’s almost impossible to express my grief.
My condolences to his children and to his wife Kitty. I’ll miss you Roddy. The world will never be as Rowdy without you.”
Flair and Piper even hold a (WWE) World Tag Team Championship together. The two defeated Kenny and Mikey of the Spirit Squad on Nov. 5, 2006 during the inaugural “Cyber Sunday” Pay-Per-View event. Fans selected Flair and Piper to team together through Internet votes.
WrestlingRumors.net continues to offer our sincere condolences to Piper’s family, friends, and loved ones.
Editor’s Note:
Man. Just sad.
