In a statement to TMZ.com, who broke the news earlier regarding the deceased WWE Hall of Famer, Hulk Hogan comments on the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s death, extending condolences to his family. As previously reported, Piper passed away on July 30 due to a cardiac arrest in his sleep. He was 61 years old.

Piper, who was one of Hogan’s opponents at the inaugural WrestleMania and all-time bitter enemies, was also one of his best friends outside of the business. He recently came to the defense of Hogan amidst the controversy surrounding the WWE Hall of Famer and his use of racial slurs in a secretly filmed video from 2006.

Hogan made the following statement about Piper’s passing,

“He was my best friend. He is a legend. God’s gain is our loss. May his family in this time of need, find peace. Much love forever, HH.”

The last time Hogan and Piper were in a ring together on WWE television during Hogan’s birthday celebration on Aug. 11, 2014. However, the two have reportedly kept in tough since the segment, which you can see below.

Piper’s last appearance on WWE TV was on Dec. 22, 2014, when he hosted a “Piper’s Pit” segment with Rusev and Lana. You can also watch a clip of that segment below.

Editor’s Note:

My heart is still way too heavy to really comment on this right now. He’s my favorite heel of all time. He’s the benchmark for me when looking at a microphone. Rest in peace, Roddy. I bet they have bubblegum in heaven.
