A new report from F4Wonline.com claims that Rey Mysterio is continuing to prepare for legal action against World Wrestling Entertainment in regards to his current contract. As previously reported, Mysterio’s current WWE deal was extended by the company due to Vince McMahon’s belief that Mysterio still owed the company time, due to his numerous injuries and time off in the last three years.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer claims that Mysterio has stopped cashing checks that WWE has issued to him, which is usually an indicator that legal action is about to take place in a contractual situation. Mysterio’s original contract expired in June, and it was reported for months once the deal had run its course that Mysterio would probably not re-sign with the company that he has worked for since 2002.
However, with the vast array of injuries he has suffered over the time contracted to WWE, McMahon felt he needed more time out of Mysterio, and used the clause set within standard WWE contracts that allows the company to extend someone’s deal without their permission. Mysterio is the only known superstar that the company has used this clause for.
WrestlingRumors.net will keep you up-to-date on this situation, which may or may not escalade into a courtroom soon.
Editor’s Note:
If I were Vince, I would have done the same thing. That guy was hurt SO much. Keep him signed, and make him do SOMETHING to get your “money’s worth” out of him.
