According to a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Triple H is seemingly frustrated with sharing creative power with Vince McMahon. Triple H, real name Paul Levesque, is the Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events, and Creative. While he has a lot of power in the direction of WWE programming and the way talent is pushed, McMahon retains the final word on everything.
These has apparently led to frustration felt on Levesque’s part. The report claims that Levesque is in an “impossible position” as the “head” of talent relations, because McMahon changes his mind frequently about what he wants accomplished, which means making constant last minute changes on-the-fly. The situation is not only a big frustration for Levesque, who gives direction and ideas to talent only to then redact what he’s said because of McMahon, but obviously also for the talent themselves.
Many others who have been in Levesque’s position at Executive VP of Talent Relations, including J.J. Dillon and Jim Ross, have gone on record saying that job will take years off of your life. Ross claimed that it was one of the worst jobs he ever had during an edition of the “Legends of Wrestling” program, which can now be viewed on the WWE Network. Apparently, the stress of dealing with talent, who all have egos to some extent and want to be used to their benefit, and with dealing with McMahon’s constantly changing creative vision is enough to drive some men insane.
The report also states that talent is noticing the tension between Levesque and McMahon, and claim that Triple H is either a really good actor, or he is legitimately aggravated with the way things are constantly changing from one minute-to-another.
Editor’s Note:
To be a fly on the wall during all of these meetings between talent, Levesque, McMahon, and then back to the talent. I can only imagine how chaotic and frustrating that would be. You’re told by one guy,”we’re ready to push you to the moon,” only to then have the guy that’s been running the company for 30 years veto that idea. Has to be a motivational nightmare.
