The origin of Dean Ambrose’s “Lunatic Fringe” nickname as been revealed. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer claims that Ambrose has taken this nickname thanks in major part to a radio station in Cincinnati (and no, not WKRP).

“The Lunatic Fringe” is the station name for WEBN 102.7, which is the main rock station in Cincinnati, Ohio where Ambrose grew up. The station pulled this name from the 1984 Red Rider song of the same name.

According to reports, Ambrose using the “Lunatic Fringe” nickname has actually strengthened his bond with the Cincinnati community he was raised in. WWE expects Ambrose to be over big time whenever they hold events in Ohio, especially in Cincinnati.

Editor’s Note:
I always wondered if it was from the Red Rider song or not. I just hate the way “The Lunatic Fringe” comes off of Michael Cole’s lips though. Always sounds ridiculous.
