The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that brand new championship belts will be coming with the new WWE logo immediately following “SummerSlam.” WWE will be rebranding everything with the new company logo on Aug. 18, which could mean the new titles are presented during that night’s edition of “Monday Night Raw.”
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer writes,
“They’ve ordered all new championship belts reflecting promotion for the WWE Network and the new logo. It’s the logo that was first introduced in December at the WrestleMania press conference in San Jose that will be used for everything starting in a few weeks.”
He goes on to say that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will return to being one belt following “SummerSlam” as well. As rumored, Cena’s gift of the “Big Gold Belt” representing the World Heavyweight Championship pre-unification to Ric Flair during the July 14 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” was to be symbolic of WWE being done with that belt. Flair was the man that strap was created for as NWA Champion in the 1980s, which is why Cena gave it to him on his way to the ring that night.
Although Flair did not keep the belt that night, the action was to be taken as Cena letting the world know that the “Big Gold Belt” would soon be retired and not used on WWE television anymore. WWE can still market and sell replicas of the monumental piece of wrestling history, even if it is not featured weekly on WWE TV.
The new belts will feature the new logo, and the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship title belt is rumored to be the same design of the WWE Championship currently, just with the new logo replacing the “Scratch” WWE logo that is front-and-center as it stands today.
Editor’s Note:
GOOD! Get RID of those PENNY looking Tag Titles and give me something that looks more like the titles of the 90s. PLEASE.
