The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that MVP has suffered a knee injury and is questionable for TNA “Slammiversary.” MVP is slated to face TNA World Heavyweight Champion Eric Young for the championship as the main event for the PPV, but may not be able to compete.

MVP was working an independent show on for Preston City Wrestling in England on May 30 when he suffered the injury. As previously reported, TNA Wrestling allows their talent to book independent shows to make up for lack of money the company can pay them at this time.

Currently, MVP is awaiting the results from medical tests and a MRI to know whether or not he will be able to compete at “Slammiversary.” The event will take place on June 15 in Arlington, Tx.

One of the issues with MVP suffering the injury is that if he is not be able to participate in the main event at “Slammiversary,” TNA is in a major jam television-wise. All of the “IMPACT WRESTLING” episodes leading up to the PPV have been taped, and the MVP vs Eric Young match is the main angle on the program.

Bobby Lashley could fill in for MVP if he cannot compete. He recently won a non-title match against Young, which would make him a logical contender if MVP cannot work. However, that would eliminate the promoted Lashley vs. Samoa Joe match on the card.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter describes MVP’s injury as such,

“MVP & Joey Hayes (Preston City wrestling heavyweight champion) were wrestling Kris Travis & Danny Hope. Toward the end of the match, MVP and Travis were brawling outside the ring and MVP’s knee went out (another person close to the situation said that it actually happened when he was coming off the ropes and it was a total freak injury as in nobody dropped him wrong or landed on him wrong or there was no screwed up move). He described it as hearing his knee pop.

He immediately limped to the back. He was scheduled to work on two shows on 5/31, and came to the arena on crutches, and cut a promo at the start of the show saying he couldn’t wrestle and apologizing. He said that he heard his knee pop the day before and had gone to the hospital. He said the X-Rays were inconclusive on the extent of the injury and would need to get an MRI done to find out the damage. His tour then took him to Holland and he went there and was on crutches. He couldn’t put any weight at all on his leg.”

Editor’s Note:
This couldn’t have  happened at a more critical time period for TNA. MVP is said to be one to the company’s greatest draws currently, and an injury that could possibly keep him out for weeks/months does not bode well for “Slammiversary.”
