Former WWE Champion John Cena hints at Cesaro becoming a main event caliber superstar soon during the most recent edition of the Steve Austin Show. Cena joined WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin for the Feb. 18 episode of Austin’s popular podcast, and discussed not only Cesaro’s possible upcoming push, but also the state of the WWE locker room, what it takes for someone to make it in the professional wrestling business, and more.
When speaking about Cesaro, Cena says that he is an abnormally strong guy who is wonderful in the ring. Cesaro and Cena recently worked out together for Muscle and Fitness, and Cena revealed to Austin that he believes that once Cesaro finds himself and figures out how to get the crowd to hold on to him as well, then he will be a true superstar in the WWE.
Austin also claims that he sees great potential in Cesaro becoming a main event style superstar soon. Both men agreed that it will take Cesaro finding and projecting the “it” factor to make this happen, however.
Cena also mentions earlier in the podcast that fear is what keeps most of the guys in the locker room from discovering their own “it” factor, keeping them in the same spot on the card until the company hands them their release. Cena states that most of the extremely talented men and women that work for WWE are afraid to go out on a limb and try something that will showcase their personality on film. “Walking on eggshells” was a term used for the atmosphere in the current locker room due to the WWE Creative process and other factors that hinder originality and productivity from the superstars.
Cena does send a message to the current WWE locker room, telling them to break through the wall of fear that keeps them from going to Vince McMahon with a creative idea for their on-screen character. Cena claims that a lot of guys on the current roster wind up reading from a sheet of paper that the WWE writing staff produced because they don’t have the courage to come up with and suggest anything original themselves. McMahon can only green-light what he hears, and if they do not step up and take the initiative, they may not ever get to the top of the WWE “food chain.”
