Dean Ambrose will defend the US title on “Smackdown” Friday, May 2. The newly crowned “longest-reigning” WWE United States Champion will put his title on the line in a Three-on-One United States Championship Match on the program, which will be taped on Tuesday, April 29. His opponents will be Alberto Del Rio, Ryback, and Curtis Axel.
Ambrose has held the US title for 345 consecutive days as of April 29, and last defended the strap against Mark Henry on the March 11 edition of “WWE Main Event.” Ambrose will take place in the highly anticipated Six-Man Tag Team Match at “Extreme Rules” between The Shield and Evolution. The question that exists currently is will Ambrose still be United States Champion when he enters the Izod Center on May 4?
Ryback and Curtis Axel, who are currently tag team partners, will be competing for singles gold in this match. Del Rio, who’s latest championship reign was in 2013 as the World Heavyweight Champion, is also looking to get his first taste of gold in some time. Rybaxel recently competed on the April 28 edition of “Monday Night Raw” for the WWE Tag Team Championship, but came up short.
WrestlingRumors.net will have correspondents during the April 29 “Smackdown” tapings and will keep you posted on the results of this match while the action is taking place. Be sure to be checking back here between 8 p.m. ET and 11 p.m. ET for full *spoilers.*
Editor’s Note:
I fully expect Evolution to get involved in this match, possibly costing Ambrose the United States Championship. I’ve said multiple times over the last three weeks, that if I was booking this feud between Evolution and The Shield, I would have Evolution some how screw Ambrose out of his title. Tonight, we’ll know if this is the route the company is going to take. If they do, I can see the title being placed on Del Rio only. Rybaxel are vying for the Tag Team Championship belts. The only way one of them takes the belt is if that team is about to split, which this is NOT the time for IMO.
