A new report from Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of “Wrestling Observer Radio” and F4Wonline.com claims that WWE Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan’s health is in question yet again and WWE is trying to protect him. Bryan suffered injuries that required surgery in 2014 before he returned to action at the beginning of 2015.
Bryan was out of action for nearly eight months due to injury, making his in-ring return during the first Thursday edition of “Smackdown” in 2015. While it was expected that Bryan would likely have to change his wrestling style to accommodate his injury, Bryan has gone full speed since his return on Jan. 15, reportedly leading to further complications to his condition.
The report claims that Bryan is actually in poor condition, which is why he hasn’t been competing on “Monday Night Raw” in recent weeks. While he’s worked dark matches and in some bouts on “Smackdown,’ WWE is putting him in six-man tag matches to allow him to get in, hit a few moves, and get out.
Apparently the shot from Sheamus that left Bryan with staples/stitches in his forehead a couple of weeks ago added to the complications, which is why Bryan was only used in a backstage segment with Kane during the April 13 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” Bryan did appear during the Dark Match at the O2 Arena in London, England after the cameras went off, but was again in a six-man tags so that he wasn’t working a full 15-20 minute bout.
WWE wants Bryan to be around for a long time, and loves the prestige he his adding to the WWE Intercontinental Championship by holding it, but they are currently worried about his longevity. WrestlingRumors.net will keep you updated on Bryan’s condition as more details surrounding this report become more available.
Editor’s Note:
This isn’t good news if it’s legit. I’ve noticed the tag match/backstage segment dynamic the last two weeks, but I didn’t think it was because of his previous injury. He’s gone full throttle since he returned in January, which I guess will prove to be smart…or not so smart in the weeks to come.
