Daniel Bryan claims WWE officials see no money in him. Bryan recently joined WGRD Radio in Grand Rapids, Mich. to promote “Smackdown” tapings happening in town. While on the air, Bryan said that WWE has never seen any money in him, and went on to reveal how the company directs his character.
Bryan says that even with the massive support from the WWE Universe, he is still frustrated by the feeling of the company he works for not seeing any money in him. He goes on to say that the company loves the crowd reaction he is getting, but also states that they do not think he’s someone that is selling tickets or persuading viewers to purchase Pay-Per-Views.
Bryan goes on to ask is the money all this business is about and then discuss the backstage politics of the industry, saying that he is not a political person and hates having to deal with that side of wrestling. He describes himself as easy-going, and doubts whether he’ll ever truly be viewed as successful to WWE officials.
Bryan also shares interesting insight into how he feels about the current connection he has with the WWE Universe. He claims that he doesn’t know why he is as over as he is because there are plenty of other guys who are just as good as he is, they just haven’t connected with the fans it. He says that kind of connection is something that cannot be taught.
Bryan goes on to say that he can’t believe that he is as popular as he is without the protective booking that other “HUGE” stars had, like Hulk Hogan and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. They rarely lost on WWE television, which kept them in a positive light with the fans. Bryan has been beaten left and right on WWE TV, yet the fans are still as behind him as they ever have been.
He then goes on to say that for long-term success as a main event superstar, you have to be proteced in booking and that’s never happened with him. After saying that he doesn’t get frustrated easily and that sometimes the crowd forces the company’s hands to do things they really don’t want to do, Bryan did say that WWE officials are planning to market Bryan’s popularity as, “The Yes Movement,” which was an idea created by The Bella Twins.
