New reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter are stating that Colt Cabana participated in new WWE tryouts recently. According to sources in the WWE, Cabana (real name Scott Colton) was trying out for a color commentator position. He participated in two separate auditions, but as of this new posting, no job has been offered to the independent wrestling superstar. These auditions were reportedly set up for Cabana by former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk.

Cabana is no stranger to the company, as he was a WWE superstar between 2007 and 2009, wrestling under the names “Chris Guy,” “Colt ‘Boom Boom’ Cabana,” and most notably “Scotty Goldman.” His last televised match in the WWE was on Smackdown against the late “Samoan Bulldozer” Umaga, in which Cabana lost. Cabana’s name is also familiar to the WWE Universe because of CM Punk’s infamous “Pipe Bomb” worked-shoot promo, which you can watch below. Punk “breaks the 4th wall” by claiming that the WWE lets go of awesome talent such as Cabana, then waves at the camera shooting him and says, “Hey Colt Cabana, how you doin’?” Punk and Cabana have had amazing matches over the years in a number of different independent promotions, and remain very close friends.
