In a new interview conducted with RedEyeChicago, CM Punk speaks out about his retirement from Professional Wrestling. Punk, real name Phil Brooks, left WWE on Jan. 27 and had not made mention to his current status until the interview published on May 29.

Punk’s WWE (or wrestling business) status has been a hot topic over the last few months. Shows had to be planned around crowds chanting his name, former WWE superstars and Legends all predicted his return, and the Internet almost broke when multiple reports claimed he would definitely be appearing during an episode of “Monday Night Raw” in Chicago last March.

However, as Punk’s ex-girlfriend described his current situation, Punk has retired at the age of 35. He is getting married to former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee in June, and is more concerned about attending Chicago-based sporting events than anything else at the moment. He’s set up to enjoy the rest of his life comfortably, and it seems that he’s doing just that.

In the interview with RedEyeChicago, Punk claims that it feels good to be retired at his age. He now has time to focus on charity, himself, playing whiffle ball with Bill Murray, and things of the like. Below is a portion of the interview:

How does it feel to be retired at 35? Are you going to be doing more charity work now? (RedEye)

It feels good. It’s a lot easier when you hook up with organizations like the Cubs and being friends with some of the team members. It isn’t hard to support their charities. Plus I get to do fun stuff like bowl and paint chairs and play whiffle ball with Bill Murray.

It was super fun and for a great cause. You’ve got athletes and actresses and musicians and all kinds of people painting chairs. I’m super happy to be a part of it. (Punk)

Some fans are still holding out hope that Punk will appear at WWE “Payback” on June 1, as it will emanate from Chicago. However, it seems as if Punk will more than likely be ready and willing to do whatever else while enjoying retirement than that.

Editor’s Note:
Does he have your attention now? He’s done. Let’s let him enjoy doing whatever it is he wants to do and stop chanting his name. It ruins other people’s matches.
