Former WWE Champion CM Punk was removed from WWE’s roster of “Active” superstars on July 15. He was placed in the “Alumni” section of WWE.com, and an official statement from either Punk, WWE, or both is expected to be made soon regarding Punk’s WWE departure.
As previously reported, Punk’s current WWE contract is set to expire on July 17, and the company does not intend on extending it beyond that expiration date. Punk walked out of the company on Jan. 27, just one night removed from the “Royal Rumble” PPV and has not appeared on WWE television since.
Punk’s name has barely been mentioned on WWE TV, used only when the company felt that they had to say something about him. In March, about a month following his unexplained departure from the company, WWE had Paul Heyman address Punk’s situation on “Monday Night Raw” due to the fact that the program was emanating from Punk’s hometown of Chicago. WWE executives felt the need to do this as a sort of “damage control.”
Stephanie McMahon would go on to say Punk “quit” during the “Payback” PPV on June 1, which was the company’s first on-air claim that Punk was finished with WWE. Reports claiming Punk considers himself a “retired” wrestler have circulated the web for a while now, with Punk even addressing the claim in one interview.
However, it was Punk’s tweet just mere hours of the news of his removal from the “Active” roster page that really seemed to drive home the fact that he is done with wrestling for now. Punk writes,
Nope, thank YOU.Thanks for all the help and support through the years. Health and happiness above all.Don’t ever take any shit from anybody.

During his time away from WWE, Punk has appeared on a couple of different Cable television shows such as AMC’s, “The Talking Dead.” He has also married WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee, and has teased that he will be starting a band and/or a podcast…or a fire…very soon.
As the WWE will likely say on WWE.com come July 17, WrestlingRumors.net would like to say that, “we wish you well in all of your future endeavors,” CM Punk.
Editor’s Note:
Looks like it’s almost over, this drama-filled quest to determine whether or not Punk is or isn’t done with wrestling. All I can say is, I hope you’re happy Punk. Thank you for everything you gave the sport. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you compete.
