Brock Lesnar may defend the WWE title against John Cena at “Royal Rumble.” The 2015 edition of the “Royal Rumble” event will also feature a 40-man Royal Rumble match and emanate from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Jan. 25. However, the outcome of the rumored WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout will likely set up two major matches at WrestleMania 31.
As previously reported, Lesnar is not currently advertised for any events leading up to the 28 annual “Royal Rumble” event. Although Lesnar and WWE have come to a new agreement regarding what his pay would be should the company book him for dates outside of the ones listed on his original contract, the company may not book their champion to compete again until January of 2015.
While Lesnar may wind up being booked for “Survivor Series” in November, the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that the current plan is to have Lesnar not face anyone again until he’s in the ring with Cena on Jan. 25. With plans currently being penciled in for WrestleMania 31, it seems as if the “Royal Rumble” will again set the course for the “Grand Daddy of Them All.”
Roman Reigns is still heavily revered by WWE officials as the next “big” star and is set up to likely win the 40-man Royal Rumble match and go on to face the WWE World Heavyweight Champion on March 29 in Santa Clara, California. That match, as it appears to be “locked in” backstage, will pit Reigns up against current champion Brock Lesnar.
Cena is rumored to be facing Rusev at WrestleMania 31, which means he may not lose outright to Lesnar and could possibly pick up his second win on the champion via disqualification at “Royal Rumble.” Reportedly, WWE officials are thinking of having Rusev make a run-in during the Lesnar vs. Cena main event to set up a feud with “the Leader of the Cenation” as the company sets its landing gear upon the “Road to WrestleMania.”
